If you're one of those parents with the lofty ambition of raising kids who go on to become well-heeled fashion empire owners, well, do yourself a solid and get them one of these bedtime story books for X'mas. While they might not like the idea, let them know that ponies and Transformers don't pay the bills really. Nothing like a good reality check every once in awhile. This 112-page illustrated biography of Ralph Lauren is the latest in the Who Was? series, which dumbs down lengthy biographies so that your kids can get the life story of a famous person by the time they’re done with their glass of hot chocolate. The story of this 78-year-old American designer, who is also known for a very admirable car collection, recollects his time as a teenager with a love for classic preppy clothing and worn leather jackets before embarking on a humble beginning of selling self-designed ties. Today, even those with a speck of idea about fashion might have come across his famed polo player on horseback logo that takes pride of place on his famous polo shirts. Your kids will thank you later for the early introduction.
