Ever seen a sneakerhead invest in a pair of fancy dress shoes? Well, some would say tough luck in getting one to do so. But back in March, Off-White and Church’s unveiled a pair of calfskin leather lace-ups that just perhaps had a few die-hard sneaker fans parking their next shoe budget on a pair manufactured by the British footwear label. It took a special case though as this pair was revealed as one of the late Virgil Abloh’s last creations. It featured a screen-printed Ablohism on the upper of the shoe – “Special Events” – that hinted at the type of occasion these were meant to be worn. Those who missed out on the first drop will be glad to know that both brands have joint forces to release a second dress shoe in-line with Abloh’s previous sneaker designs. This time around, a pair of Consul Meteor features circular cut-outs all over the upper, a reminder of some of his coveted Jordan sneaker silhouettes (as well as its corresponding shoe boxes). Abloh once revealed that these holes were a philosophical take on Nike Air, about how the air outside the box is also in the product (he even encouraged fans to DIY such holes in the mesh of their sneakers). Other Off-White signatures remain for this Consul such as green hang tag and the “shoelaces” labelling on, well, the laces. Our advice? Get your sock game in order.
