Just because the tennis fans in your life are casually throwing around terms like double fault, deuce, and drop shot and leaving you in the lurch of knowing the definitions doesn’t mean that you don’t appreciate the sport. Two people chasing after a furry yellow ball with a stick in hand. How hard can it be to understand? Now, you can get back at them and just perhaps celebrate tennis in the process courtesy of Bvlgari. The Italian luxury house has roped in Casablanca – a favourite label amongst the Jenners and even Jeff Bezos – to reimagine some of its iconic carriers, of which there are seven pieces in total for this collab. French-Moroccan designer Charaf Tajer, who wants you to know he isn’t DJ Khaled, is a massive user of psychedelic colours for his menswear and womenswear label that has now become a fundamental brand in any baller’s fit. And guess what? The former creative and co-founder of Pigalle is obsessed about tennis too but not that he has casual tennis play dates with Nadal and Federer. It is that outside looking in idea about the sport that has inspired him to create these tennis-themed wares – with a pinch of humour we might add – to challenge the status quo of major sporting labels. Casablanca’s version of the iconic Serpenti top handle bag looks like it was morphed from one of your favourite casual sneakers named after a famous tennis player. The green-and- white colourways on the gorgeous calfskin leather and enamelled serpent head-clasp are unmistakable, along with the perforations that allude to a racquet’s anti-slip grip tape. Where the humour comes in here lies in the top handle design. Fashioned from wood, it harks back to the days where this material was the only choice for top-level racquets (yes, they were heavier but delivered less spin on the ball). Tajer wants to give owners an option to flaunt this Serpenti as a spectator at a high-profile tennis match before you head straight out to dinner or a social shindig. In tennis, this is what they call an advantage and this bag has it in abundance.
