Some watchmakers already have such a hard time making a decent wristwatch. Some exceptional ones – like Cartier – are already on another planet when it comes to the craft. Take this Clash [Un]limited hand wear that’s putting a surrealistic spin to timekeeping, one that maybe even Dalí would approve of. Called a mitten watch, this daring expression is a showboating exercise of its jewellery-making and tech know-how. The real handiwork takes place on the silky gold mesh: Artisans layer micro-sized squares of pink gold using laser welding and tools not often seen outside of microsurgery. Then, 1,600 diamonds are carefully set onto the mesh and Baignoire Allongée watch in a gorgeous pattern that mimics rainfall. Such is the level of finesse in connecting the watch case with the gold mesh that one isn’t able to notice a gap between the two, with the time adjustment hidden at the back for tidiness sake. How do you wear it without having it slide off? Well, you just might have to try one on for size.
